Frequently Asked Questions

Get a health cash plan

Q. How does the healthprotect Cash Plan work?

A. It's very simple. You have the treatment and pay the bill. Treatment must be given by a qualified practitioner who is registered with an appropriate recognised organisation. You then make a claim and once it's processed you'll receive a cheque through the post made out to you usually within 3 working days.

Q. Can I cover my children?

A. Yes with the Under 50 Plan. You can cover up to 4 dependent children. They can be your natural children or legally adopted children. They must be over 6 months old and under 18 years of age and permanently living with you. Or over 18 and under 22 years old in full time education.

Q. How many claims can I make?

A. You can make as many claims as you need until you reach the maximum annual limit available for the level of cover you choose.

Q. Is there anything that I am not covered for?

A. Very little. The main instances when you will not be covered are deliberate self-injury, riding on a motorcycle, working as a professional sportsperson or any injury or condition you knew about prior to your application for cover (whether diagnosed or not) or for which you received advice, treatment or counselling in the 12 months before the start of your policy, AIDS related conditions, conditions due to drug and alcohol abuse or your criminal activity. A full list of exclusions will be provided in your policy document.

Q. Why is the NHS prescription benefit only available to those aged under 60 on the Over 50 plan?

A. Everyone is entitled to free NHS prescriptions once they reach 60. To ensure your cover remains relevant, when you reach this age you will receive the Recuperation Grant benefit instead. However, if you are under 60 and already receive free NHS prescriptions (e.g. if you are diabetic), you can receive the Recuperation Grant instead, providing you choose this option when taking out the plan. Please note that this choice of benefit is based on the main applicant's circumstances, and partners will receive the same benefit.

Q. Is there a waiting period before I can make a claim?

A. If you are hospitalised or require emergency dental treatment as a result of an accident you can claim immediately. Otherwise, like other plans of this type, you cannot make a claim in the first 6 months.

Q. Will my premiums go up if I make a claim?

A. No. Your premiums will never increase as a direct result of you making a claim.

Q. Will my amount of cover increase?

A. No. It will remain the same as long as your policy continues with us.

Q. Can I cancel my cover?

A. You can cancel your cover at any time with no strings attached. Simply call the telephone number in your welcome letter.

Q. Who underwrites the healthprotect Cash Plan?

A. The healthprotect Cash Plan is underwritten by Pinnacle Insurance Plc who has been providing insurance through major banks and building societies for many years.
